AN Urmston bookshop has knocked strips off some of the leading High Street retailers after selling more copies of a new book.
Moone Boy - The Wonder Years, is written and based on the family life of Irish actor Chris O'Dowd.
The Urmston Bookshop hosted O'Dowd and his co-author Nick Vincent Murphy last week as a steady stream of buyers queued up to get O'Dowd's moniker on the new publication.
O'Dowd who is famous for TV's IT Crowd, has appeared opposite some of Hollywood's leading actors in films including Bridesmaids and Thor.
The book is based on a boy growing up in rural Ireland and also draws on the childhood experiences of Nick, who is an Irish screenwriter from Kilkenny. The pair met while at university.
Urmston bookshop owner Peter Hopkins said: "We had steady stream of people in for the signings and what was most heartening was knowing we sold more copies of the book than WH Smith in Manchester's Arndale."
The bookshop has hosted a number of celebrities/politicians including Ann Widdecombe, Tony Robinson and Dick and Dom.
