NHS Trafford is urging 'at risk' residents to get ‘flu safe,’ as winter approaches, with a free flu jab.

Dr Nigel Guest, chief clinical officer at NHS Trafford Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), said: “Flu can be a really serious illness for some people and there are a significant number of deaths each year.

"It affects all ages and the important thing is, it is preventable.”

“If you’re in an ‘at-risk’ group you would be helping yourself and the general public by getting your free NHS flu jab from your GP practice.

"The key message this winter is ‘it’s free because you need it’.”

Those ‘at-risk’ include people with long-term health conditions e.g. diabetes, heart and lung conditions, pregnant women, children aged two to four, carers, health professionals and all those aged over 65.

The vaccination does not contain the live virus so it cannot give you flu. The type of flu changes every year, and to fight the latest strains, you need vaccinating every year.

The best time to get vaccinated is the start of flu season, from October to November.

Contact your GP practice or pharmacist to arrange an appointment.
