KATE Green, MP for Stretford & Urmston, visited an FA Mars Just Play disability session at Stretford Leisure Centre.

Ms Green watched the football game and had the chance to chat to the players and coaches.

FA Mars Just Play was launched in 2010 to tackle the decline in adult football and promote regular exercise. The programme came about following the publication of Sport England research showing a sharp decline in the number of adults playing regular sport, due in part to a lack of facilities.

There are Just Play sessions for people with disabilities, veterans, beginners, as well as men-only and mixed sessions.

Just Play Disability has been running for 18 months at Stretford. It is linked with Trafford Mencap and the Ability group of Trafford College.

As of this month, Stretford Leisure Centre has a formal link with FC United of Manchester and will form part of a disability team to play in the Ability Counts Football League.

She said, “It was brilliant to watch a Just Play Disability session and to meet the players.

“Everyone I chatted to had a great time and I hope that more disabled people in Stretford & Urmston interested in football will take part in this great initiative.”
