THE prospective Labour candidate for Altrincham and Sale West has welcomed Scotland's decision to remain part of the UK.

James Wright, said: “As an Englishman living in Sale, proud of my Scottish ancestors, I believe in the United Kingdom.

"However, I also understand the need for change that the people of Scotland have called for, and this must happen.

"That change must also happen here in Greater Manchester, with more powers devolved from Westminster to local authorities and the region.

"Due to financial mismanagement, the Conservative-run Trafford Council is currently privatising, cutting or closing down many of the public services that we as residents pay for through our council tax.

"We need to strengthen services provided by Trafford, not downgrade our Council.

"The wishes of the people of Scotland should be matched by our wishes here in Greater Manchester – more power diverted to councils and regions, to provide better services to local people.”
