AN Altrincham opticians is urging parents to get their children’s eyes checked before the start of the new school year.
Scrivens Opticians, on George Street, is highlighting research from the Health and Social Care Information Centre that reveals eye examinations rates among under 15s has fallen to a 10-year low.
That’s despite the fact that undiagnosed eye problems can have a huge impact on a child’s education.
Scrivens Opticians branch manager, Sue Story, said: “If unchecked, poor eyesight can really affect a child’s education as well as their overall development.
“As children grow, their eyes are constantly changing so it’s vital that they are checked regularly.
"Eye checks can also detect other health problems at an early stage, which can make them easier to treat.”
