SIX parks across Trafford have been named among the best in the country after receiving the prestigious Green Flag Award 2014.

The accolades, which are awarded by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, recognise and rewards the best parks and green spaces across the country.

A Green Flag flying overhead is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent facilities.

The areas chosen from across Trafford make up six out of a record-breaking 1,476 parks and green spaces across the country.

Those chosen include, Worthington Park and Walkden Gardens in Sale, Victoria Park in Stretford, Denzell Gardens and the Devisdale in Bowdon, Flixton Gardens in Flixton and Hullard Park in Old Trafford.

Executive councillor John Reilly said: “We are absolutely delighted that six of our parks have received a Green Flag Award again from Keep Britain Tidy.

"This confirmation is testament to the commitment of our Friends of Parks groups and our staff who are working in new more efficient ways, to maintain the high standards achieved.

“Working with our communities in Trafford we are able to provide parks and green spaces of the very highest quality. We will look to continue this standard of excellence for the future.”

Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award scheme manager, Paul Todd, said: “We are delighted to announce yet another record-breaking year for the Green Flag Award parks and green spaces.

“A Green Flag Award provides national recognition for all the parks managers, staff and volunteers who, through their dedication and hard work, have helped to create these fantastic places for everyone to enjoy.

“Quality green spaces are a vital resource for communities and that is why it is so significant that we have given out more awards than ever before”.
