Roadworks hit rush hour traffic

DELAYS of up to an hour have frustrated motorists heading into Manchester this morning from Altrincham and Sale.

The delays are thought to have been caused by pipeworks, which has reduced the opposite side of the carriageway of the A56 Washway Road down to one lane in Sale, between the A6144 Harboro Way junction and the B5397 Dane Road junction.

Traffic jams continued along Chester Road into Stretford.

One driver complained: "This is rediculous. It took me 25 minutes to travel two miles."

It wasn't the pipe replacement works - the problem was in the opposite direction. For some reason the lights at the M60 were letting 20 odd cars off the motorway up towards Stretford but only 2 from the A56. That caused a mammoth tailback down to Altrincham. It took me an hour to get from the lights at Sainsburys to the other side of the motorway.

Could you please investigate how this enormous tailback was allowed to happen without anybody coming to sort it out?
