ASDA Trafford Park has bagged a world first, with the installation of a 3D printing full body scanner at the store.

The cutting edge machine was placed in the supermarket on Monday, which has allowed customers to create 3D miniature replicas of themselves.

The new phenomenon has been dubbed a ‘shelfie’, as it allows customers able to create personalised ornaments of themselves.

The state-of-the-art scanner, which will be in store until June 22 and is a world first, takes just seconds to scan your full body.

The digital scan is then sent away to be turned into a detailed 8" mini-statue in full colour, which can be collected from store a week later.

Each model costs £60.

Andrew Moore, chief Merchandising officer at Asda said: “Our customers are always looking for the next big innovation and we’re committed to making the newest and most exciting technology available to our customers.

“We were the first to bring affordable 3D printing to the market and customers were queuing round the block to try it out.

“Following an overwhelming positive initial reaction from shoppers, the obvious next step was to provide improved innovation that we hope will become a permanent fixture in our stores.

"The possibilities with 3D printing are endless and I’m pleased that we’re ahead of the game in making this truly transformational technology an everyday reality for our customers.”

If the trial of the new 3D technology at Trafford Park is successful the new scanners will be rolled out to more stores over the summer.
