DUNHAM Massey’s annual Rose Queen Festival will take place on Saturday, May 17, as the village commemorates the First World War.

Sisters Violet Bickerton, eleven, a year seven pupil of St Nicholas’ Catholic High School in Northwich and Julie Bickerton, nine, in year four at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Middlewich, pictured, will be crowned Rose Queen and Rose Bud respectively.

Both girls have taken part in the Victorian origin event since they were babies and their mum Patricia Bickerton is ‘very proud’ they were picked this year as their great grandad was an estate worker at Dunham who served in the Cheshire regiment.

Patricia said: “It was a big surprise that both girls were picked out of the hat at the same time.”

The procession will leave Dunham Park around 1.15pm for the crowning ceremony at the Village Hall at 2pm.
