Singing mums issue a challenge to local workers
Updated 2:12pm Tuesday 8th April 2014 in News
JUST one month since their first rehearsal, the Altrincham Sings project now has almost 80 Mums singing together every week and enjoying every minute of it.
Project director Claire O’Brien said, “ The Mums Choir is just amazing sound fantastic. Everybody has a ball at the rehearsals – it is such good fun!”
New choirs for Seniors and Teens are a great success too, with new members joining each week and other local choirs looking to work with the project. A Workers Choir has met several times but unlike the other groups, the turnout has been disappointing.
Claire said, “We are surprised that so few workers have turned up so far. We have had leaflets and posters delivered across the town centre and are using social media to reach people too”
The workers who have joined the choir can’t understand it either Local businesswoman Ruth Sheard said today: "I can't sing for toffee but decided to go along because there were no auditions and it sounded like a lot of fun.
“It was brilliant. Claire and Tina are really great coaches – and really make it fun.
“I've always been self-conscious about my voice but They welcomed me with open arms and helped me hit notes I didn't think possible!
“I'd love to see more people join the workers choir - it's a great way to spend an hour and makes a great change from eating my lunch at my desk.”
The Altrincham Sings choirs are working towards a public performance in the town centre on May 10 and more details will be available shorty.
Mums Choir member Lynn Nolan added: “Altrincham’s workers don’t know what they are missing.
“They had better turn up for this week’s rehearsal or on May 10 or the towns singing mums will outnumber them!”
