TRAFFORD residents are being urged to be extra vigilant to ensure they don’t fall prey to rogue roofers visiting their property, following the recent storms.
Gangs often target householders, including the elderly and vulnerable, quoting a low price for a job, and after several claims of additional work being required, the victim ends up handing over large sums of money.
Executive councillor Alan Mitchell said: “The practice of offering to do repairs door-to-door is not uncommon. Unfortunately people can end up paying much more than anticipated.
“Anyone knocking on the door offering to do work is legally required to give consumers written notice of their seven days’ cancellation rights.
“I would strongly urge residents to avoid doing business on their doorstep.”
Anyone unsure about a caller should contact the police on 101 or Trading Standards on 0161 912 1377.
