MANCHESTER City footballer Alex Nimely’s drunken attempt to park his Range Rover Sport in a safe place turned out to be a disaster.

After going down a one-way street off Deansgate against the traffic Nimely, from Altrincham, collided with a parked car which was shunted into another vehicle.

The 22-year-old striker who was double the drink limit was fined £600 and disqualified for 18 months at Manchester City Magistrates’ Court.

Nimely, of Romana Square, admitted driving with excess alcohol at 2.35am on January 12.

He was made to pay £85 costs and a £60 surcharge.

Prosecutor Dominic Geelan said the two parked cars had suffered minor damage and Nimely admitted responsibility for the accident.

While being quizzed about the incident it was noticed that he had been drinking.
He was put into the back of a police car where he took a breath test.

He was arrested after the sample gave a reading of 70 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – the limit is 35.

Nimely, who signed for the Blues in 2008, had swerved in a bid to avoid hitting a car coming the correct way along Jackson Row., said Mr Geelan.

Gwyn Lewis, defending, said Nimely, currently on loan at Crystal Palace, hadn’t planned to get behind the wheel but a friend who he hoped would drive had drank too much.

The court heard he had managed to avoid the oncoming car but struck a parked vehicle which had rolled and collided with another car.

Mr Lewis said Nimely was in a financial position to pay his fine and costs immediately.

Mr Lewis said: “He only wanted to park his car safely. Unfortunately he did not know the area very well and crashed going the wrong way up a one-way street.

“My client is still a young man and I hope he will learn his lesson – it was a learning curve for him.”

The court offered Nimely the drink driver’s rehabilitation scheme which, if completed successfully, would reduce the ban by 25 per cent.
