A PUBLIC meeting has been called after a community group has revealed its ambitious plans for a landmark building in north Trafford.

Friends of Stretford Public Hall would like to take over the lease of the premises on Chester Road and would like to hear from anyone interested in having a say in its future.

The building was used as offices by Trafford Council and Annoushka Deighton, chairman of the Friends group, said it is looking at the possibility of turning the facility into a multi-purposevenue with new facilities.

She said these could include everything from a cafe and a restaurant to a theatre and a cinema.

Annoushka said: “The building would have to cover its own running and maintenance costs. We are at the early planning stages and are open to ideas and we are holding a meeting for anyone with the practical skills in terms of helping running such a project as well as artists, designers, therapists, cafe owners, small businesses and community groups and anyone else interested in using the Hall.”

* The meeting will be held at The Melville pub, Melville Road, Stretford, on January 9 at 7.30pm. Anyone interested attending should email annoushka@yahoo.co.uk.
