URMSTON Choral Society (UCS) and children from St. Monica’s school choir will be going back in time from the present day to the medieval era when they present a festive spectacular.

They will be performing ‘Christmas Through the Ages’, at St. Monica’s Church, Irlam Road, Flixton, on Wednesday, December 11, starting at 7.30pm.

This concert will be repeated (without the children) at St. Werbergh’s Church, Wilbraham Road, Chorlton, on Saturday, December 14, starting at 7.30pm.

Also appearing at the St. Monica’s concert will be Margot Campbell (soprano) and the choir’s accompanist, Gareth Curtis.

Among the highlights of the Flixton concert, will be UCS singing several pieces of music from the 15th and 16th century as well as their rendition of Silent Night in German and many traditional Christmas carols.

St. Monica’s Choir, under their headteacher Louise Davies, will be performing ‘The Candle Song’ by Graham Kendrick among others.

Both choirs will also sing together the sacred 16th century Christmas carol, ‘Gaudete’.

Tickets, which are priced £7 adults, £6 seniors and £2 students/children, can be purchased by telephoning choir member Maxine Summers on 0161 748 0903 or bought at the door on the night of the concerts.

Said UCS’s Musical Director, Julie Parker: “This concert will evoke many nostalgic emotions about Christmases of a bygone age and remind people of what the festive season is all about. It will be completely different from anything we have performed in the past and will be a delightful way of celebrating this joyful time of year.”
