AN FA coach from Sale, who is helping to improve the community through sport, to be presented with a newly-launched award to recognise his sterling efforts.
Simon Youd, 44, of Thirsk Avenue, will receive the Tom Morris Community Award from Sale Rotary Club due to his innovative work.
Through his original brainchild, ‘Skillz FC’, Simon and his daughter have helped to transform parts of Sale West by merging sport and life skills in a programme for all age groups, from primary school children to over 50s, and also the unemployed.
Gareth Trehearn, Rotary Club president, said: “Skillz FC goes beyond sport into building self-esteem, motivation, confidence, outlook and positive attitudes that are making Sale West a very different place to live.”
Trafford MV Rugby Football and Cricket Club chairman, Greg Hawkins, also received a commendation for his work in setting up MV Hawks – a junior rugby club that has around 300 members.
