OUT of the 13,000 contestants who took part in Cheshire’s gruelling Tough Mudder event a Sale couple had a very happy ending when they got engaged at the finish line.

Chris Edwards popped the question to his partner of seven years, Naomi Feast, at the end of the 12-mile event at the Cholmondeley Estate in Malpas last weekend.

Overjoyed at the news, Naomi said the nature of the proposal means she will not be forgetting it any time soon.

“I was not expecting it. We have been together for so long I was not expecting it at all,” she said.

“I was so happy that I had finished the course, so when I turned around it was a complete and utter surprise. It was unforgettable.

“It was never going to be a normal one with Chris or at a meal – in some respects I was not surprised.

“His best friend came along and looked after the ring and at about mile nine gave it to Chris.”

The couple are yet to set a date for their upcoming nuptials, but are hoping to get married next September.

Naomi and Chris had to deal with a course which experienced torrential downpours, which turned the event into one of the most treacherous yet.

The couple had to negotiate muddy trenches, waist-high lakes of ice-cold water and claustrophobic tunnels, but Naomi was proud to finish the challenging course.

“It was really tough and I did not find the distance the issue but the obstacles, while Chris found it the other way around,” she said.

“It was the amount of mud which made it so difficult – it took you ages to travel 100 metres and the mud smelled as well.

Some of the course was obstacles made out of mud, and you just had to deal with it.”
