Sixty six per cent of the school’s 116 candidates attained either grade A* or A in at least eight of their chosen subjects and 39 girls achieved 10 or more GCSEs at these top two grades.

All the girls who took further mathematics GCSE achieved at least A*, and, remarkably, a record 35 of them gained an A* with distinction.

Sixteen-year-old Polly Harlow achieved 11.5 A*s including an A*with distinction in further mathematics.

She is looking forward to studying the International Baccalaureate Diploma at Manchester High in September.

Polly said: “I am really pleased with my results. I am looking forward to studying the IB Diploma, I am interested in a variety of subjects and the diploma is spread across many subjects so I believe the style and content will suit me.”

Katharine Taylor, 16, said: “I got 11.5 A*s which include an A* with distinction in further mathematics. I was so nervous and worried, and hardly slept last night, so these results are a relief. I have worked really hard.”

Katherine is returning to MHSG to study sciences and maths at A-level in September.

Headmistress, Mrs Claire Hewitt, said: “I am absolutely delighted. I fully recognise the hard work that lies behind these superb results both on the part of the girls and their teachers, and I congratulate them on their success.

“The ethos at MHSG is to ensure that each girl achieves her very best. Focusing on academic accomplishments is vital, but equally important is enjoying a wide programme of extra-curricular activities.

“We know that our holistic approach to education helps our girls to develop their individual abilities, such as initiative, creativity, problem solving and team work.

“Such skills are essential for their future learning and we wish our students continued success as they embark on their studies for A-level or the International Baccalaureate Diploma.”
