THIS is the statue in memory of the much loved entertainer Frank Sidebottom, and it will stand in Timperley village.

But Cllr Neil Taylor, a spokesman for the project said there’s still one final financial hurdle to clear.

Speaking through Twitter, Neil said: “The project cost has now gone up, I am awaiting the final exact details on this and as soon as final figures are available will publish and we can then work out how to fund raise the very final amount.

“We are tantalising close and I will pass on any more news and updates as soon as I get them.

“Please be patient as we get to the closing stage of this.”

He said an unveiling date will not be revealed until the statue is in Timperley, the town Frank Sidebottom, the comic creation of the late Chris Sievey was so fond of.

Neil added: “Some final touches are going to need to be done, like the painting of the head.”

He’s optimistic that the statue will be delivered to the UK in “a matter of weeks.”

Frank Sidebottom was as popular with adults as he was with children and Chris Sievey, the man behind him, died from cancer three years ago, at the age of 54.
