ON Friday (July 5), staff at Trafford General Hospital will mark the 65th anniversary of the NHS with the launch of a special exhibition charting the development of patient care over the year.

They will also cut a special anniversary cake, followed by a commemorative balloon launch.

Trafford General Hospital is known as the birthplace of the NHS as it was here in 1948 that the then Health Secretary Aneurin Bevan visited to receive the keys of the very first NHS hospital.

There have been significant changes in the way patients are treated and cared for over the years and some of this is charted in the exhibition, along with the history of the hospital since it originally opened in 1929.

The exhibition focuses on several specific areas of patient care and treatment: heart attacks, stroke, diabetes, care of the elderly, children’s services, examples of the patient journey in both day case (gall bladder) and in-patient surgery (knee replacement), and nursing.

Patients and visitors to the hospital will be able to see the special exhibition which will be on display in the main entrance and in the restaurant from July 8 for a short time.
