A CHURCH in Hale put a spring back into Manchester’s most vulnerable’s step - by donating 150 Easter eggs to a homeless charity.

St. Peter’s Church, on Ashley Road, raised £400 to buy 100 ‘Real Easter Eggs’ made by Manchester-based the Meaningful Chocolate Company - who have matched the 100 egg donation with 50 free ones.

The eggs were distributed to homeless men and women at the Barnabus charity’s office in Manchester on Easter Day as an Easter gift.

Virginia Ritchie, a church volunteer who spearheaded the project, said: “It is heartwarming to see how people want to help, and so if you give them a vehicle by which they can do so - they will take it!”

She also said she was overwhelmed by the support of Hale residents who not only donated money for the eggs but also donated blankets, coats and clothing for the charity’s cause.

Barnabus is a Christian charity in Manchester who provide support to the homeless through street outreach, drop-in and collaborative projects.

Due to the recession, loss of jobs and relationship break ups, the charity has seen an unprecedented increase in need.

The charity now offer a life-line to between 500 and 600 visiting homeless and vulnerable people each week, many of whom have severe drug and alcohol addiction and mental health issues.
