TWO Trafford Labour MPs have demanded a meeting with the health secretary over the controversial plans for Trafford General Hospital - which include downgrading the A&E department.
MPs Kate Green and Paul Goggins, who represents Wythenshawe and Sale East, want assurances from health secretary Jeremy Hunt about the quality of health provision for their constituents.
Stretford and Urmston MP Ms Green said: "Jeremy Hunt will be taking the final decision about the future of Trafford, and I've asked to meet him urgently to convey the concerns of my constituents.
"Just this week, Sir Bruce Keogh, who is carrying out a review of urgent care for the Government, said it's vital that new services are in place before any existing services are closed.
"But there are serious worries about capacity at other neighbouring hospitals to cope if services are downgraded at Trafford, and about the future of health services across Greater Manchester.
"When there's an emergency, I want my constituents to be guaranteed access to the best possible care without any unnecessary delay.
"Local people really aren't confident that will be available to them."
