TRAFFORD Council is urging people not to use a brand of electronic cigarette which poses the risk of electric shock to users.

The council's Trading Standards team recently seized a quantity of the 'e Health Cigarette' products which were found on sale during routine checks.

The mains charger supplied with the product fails to comply with safety standards and also fails to carry the appropriate warnings about safety and health.

The product has previously been subject to a European Safety recall and checks are ongoing to identify any other product remaining in the supply chain.

Executive councillor Alan Mitchell said: "This type of product has increased in use over the past few years as an alternative to smoking cigarettes, but consumers who choose to switch to these products as an alternative to smoking are put at increased risk of injury if they use this particular product.

"I would urge anyone who has bought one of these products to stop using it and anyone seeing it still on sale are asked to contact the trading standards team on 0161 912 1377."
