A 28-year-old baker from Warburton who runs her own business, Kinsella Cakes, has turned to cooking up drama as well.

Laura Kinsella has adapted Jane Eyre from the book to a stage play for Dunham Thespians.

“It was slightly daunting to convert a 400 page book into a play,” she said.

“I stuck to the book as much as possible.   I included the most important parts but left out most of Jane’s early life.

“This is the first writing I have done and it was my idea.”

Laura loves the story because, for the times. “Jane was such a strong character”.

The thespians are still thinking how to create the fire at the end although the earlier one caused by mad woman Bertha will be indicated by dry ice.

Louise Burgens will play Jane Eyre and Martin Clare will be Mr Rochester.  The revolving stage, created by Trevor Wells and Lindsay Park, was Martin’s idea.

Laura is also directing the play as well as making four of the costumes including Jane’s flouncy  dress.

“I am making a lace pull-on to go over it which becomes her wedding dress,” she said.

“I love the period dramas and we haven’t done enough of them.”

Laura says adapting Jane Eyre has whetted her appetite.  “One day I will do an Austen play.   We just need more young men,” she said.

“This will be different from anything we have done for a while”
