AWARD-winning drama group, Altrincham Creative Theatre School, is offering a training programme for student drama teachers keen to develop their experience.

Student teachers will shadow senior staff and help plan and run sessions with students aged 14 upwards, who meet weekly on Sunday mornings.

Previous student teachers have gone on to successful careers, with their work on the drama school’s productions providing much-needed hands-on experience and contributing to their success at degree level.

The drama school, which recently celebrated its fifth birthday, is run on a voluntary basis and caters for children aged 10 to 18 with an interest in the performing arts.

Founded in 2010 by experienced teacher Valerie Harris who has taught drama locally for many years, A.C.T.S. is a non-profit organisation where Valerie and fellow tutors John Banks and Peter Ning share their expertise of the theatre world with aspiring young actors, developing confidence and performance skills in a nurturing and fun environment.

The production values and acting qualities have been so high that they have won awards for their plays every year since the school’s inception.

In 2015 they received four awards in regional drama festivals including: best junior play at Chelford Drama Festival; the adjudicator’s award at the Wilmslow Festival of One-Act Plays; best supporting youth actress at Partington Players One Act Play Festival; plus a certificate of merit for Valerie Harris’ production of ‘Melons at the Parsonage’.

Valerie said: “Our drama school offers a structured and welcoming environment where young people can learn about theatre, taking part in productions, drama festivals and workshops.

"The training programme we offer for student teachers is a great opportunity for them to get practical experience and for us to share our expertise.”
