MY companion and I sit cabaret style round a table to watch Urmston Musical Theatre’s delightful, delicious, delovely A Night At The Musicals, compered by an outgoing Bill Platt.

Instead of seeing one show, we see the best of 11.

There is only one song, Friendship, from Anything Goes, that I don’t recognise. Most are familiar and well loved.

Eight dancers perform modern dance, ballet and tap, well choreographed by Sophie Johnson. Their item from Cats is especially graceful, as is the imaginative shadow dancing in Chicago.

Director, Rita Taylor-Bentley appears on stage to perform her signature song, Hello Dolly.

Musical director, Deborah Holmes, faces the audience with Ribbons down My Back from the same musical.

Charlotte Booker, 15, sings On My Own with charisma. She’s followed by Mark Finch’s lively version of Master of the House.

Well done Anita Partridge and John Walker for Do You Love Me? Also, Arthur Hulse for Make ‘Em Laugh and Tony Taylor for On the Street Where You Live.

Father and daughter, Daniel and Rachel Mellor have exceptional voices. Daniel sings two favourites, Bring him Home from Les Mis and If I were a Rich Man from Fiddler on the Roof whilst Rachel sings My Fair Lady’s I Could Have Danced All Night The male ensemble is exceptionally good.
