URMSTON Musical Theatre’s A Night at the Musicals promises to be a magical evening.

For the first time, those at the front will sit at beautifully decorated tables enjoying a drink whilst watching extracts from Anything Goes, Top Hat, Hello Dolly and Les Miserables.

After replenishing their glasses in the interval, they can see the best bits from My Fair Lady and Fiddler on the Roof before a final scene from Singing in the Rain

Before each scene, Bill Platt will tell the story behind each musical.

Director, Rita Taylor-Bentley said:  “It was very difficult to decide which shows to choose.  I wanted to do songs that people know.   It’s good if they can sing along.”

The cast of 45 includes eight dancers whose routines are from Cats, Westside Story and Chicago.

“They’ll also be tapping in Anything Goes and Top Hat.   They are very good,” said Rita.

“I’ve included everyone – even our Chair Person, Anita Partridge.”

“We have some wonderful soloists.   I tell them ‘always concentrate and watch your musical director.   Don’t overdo it.   Just be natural.’”

The musical director is Debbie Holmes who will, not only conduct a four piece band, but also join in herself.

Rita said:   “She’ll make a grand entrance from the pit on to the stage to sing Ribbons Down My Back in Hello Dolly.

“They’ve all worked very hard.”
