It is all change at Stretford Mall after the closure of a venue and a change in hours for a venue at the under-development destination.

The Hive announced it is closing while the foodhall announced it is changing its hours in two separate posts on social media last week.

The Hive, an all-day, family-friendly bar and restaurant renowned for its roasts, opened two days before lockdown in 2020 on the site of what was an RBS bank.

Its post on social media said the closure was under consideration for "a while", something suggested by the presence of a "for sale" sign for a number of months.

Its statement said: "With VAT at 20 per cent, the cost of ingredients quadrupling, the electricity bills up 400 per cent, the minimum wage increasing, and a lack of disposable income in households, it has made it impossible for us to continue with no help or support from the government. We weren't the first to close and sadly we won't be the last to close. It is a truly dark time for the hospitality industry.

"A big thank you to everyone who has supported us over the past four years – it has been a rollercoaster ride – please support your favourite independent bar or restaurant as they are all struggling too."

Stretford Foodhall contains a dining and drinking area with a rotation of independent eateries and a shop.

Its sister Sale Foodhall, at Stanley Square, shut down last year after less than a year and a half in business.

Its statement said: "With the positive changes happening around us with The Mall development and the Kingsway streetworks we are now not able to fulfil the hours we once could.

"We will review in coming weeks and months whether we can revert to fuller hours."

Stretford Mall is under development with the work on King Street and Kingsway well underway and in line for completion this year.

The work on another phase, including the work on up to 800 homes, is in the pipeline as the developer awaits planning permission.

Here are the opening times for the foodhall:

Mon: Closed
Tues: 10am - 6pm
Weds - Thurs: 10am - 9pm
Fri - Sat: 9am - 10pm
Sun: 10am - 6pm
