The last mayor raised almost £17,500 for the causes closest to his heart over the course of his one-year stint in the prestigious position.

Chris Boyes served as the Mayor of Trafford between May last year and May this year before the present mayor Dolores O'Sullivan.

The ex-Conservative Group councillor, who lost his seat in Brooklands Ward at the latest Trafford Council election, oversaw events like the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth III and the accession of His Majesty King Charles III, who also appeared at the Kellogg's Plant in Trafford Park.

Mr Boyes raised almost £17,500 for the causes closest to his heart – The Children's Air Ambulance, The Royal Manchester Children's Hospital and Parkinson's UK (Trafford Branch) – over the course of his one-year stint via an event set aside for each of them as well as fundraising in general.

Recently he presented the cheques in a big boost to the charities at the turn of the year.

Mr Boyes said: "I am extremely grateful for the work by my Charity Committee and for the support from the people of Trafford at a time when coming out of coronavirus, coupled with the cost of living crisis, was making fundraising a hard task for all charities."

Parkinson's UK (Trafford Branch) received £7,000, which Mr Boyes presented to the charity's Norma Ashton. The total comes to £17,394.95.

Between May this year and May next year Cllr O'Sullivan is fundraising for Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), Little Green Sock Project and Trafford Domestic Abuse Services.
