After more than six months of delays, the new library in Hale village is set to open later this week.

Located in the pavilion building on the bowling green, Hale Library will finally be opening its doors tomorrow (November 9).

Delays to an expected spring opening occurred due to Trafford Council waiting for building certificates to show work was completed in line with regulations.

Plans for the new centre, which were granted by Trafford Council back in 2021 and are the product of Hale Community Trust, Trafford Council, and Westshield Ltd’s partnerships, will be an upgrade to the original library which was built in 1907.

The new 3,000 sq ft library can be found on the first floor of Hale Library and Community Centre, and is set to include “books, computer use, Wi-Fi and a host of activities”, according to Trafford Council.

The ground floor, operated by Hale Community Trust, has been improved for residents and bowling club members.

It will consist of a bowling club room, new public toilets, a restaurant/cafe, and two large community rooms.

Councillor Cath Hynes, deputy leader of Trafford Council and the executive member for leisure, arts, culture and heritage stated: “Libraries are extremely important to local communities and we are delighted to be opening this fabulous new facility in Hale.”

Due to the months of delays, the council opened a weekly pop-up library at St Peter’s Church, on Harrop Road.

Cllr Hynes said: “We appreciate all the frustration caused by the delay but it is great news that the library will now be fully open.”

Along with the reopening of the local centre, libraries in the Trafford area will be supporting ‘Movember’ this November, and will be raising funds for men’s health.

Books on men’s health can be found by browsing the Trafford Libraries catalogue.
