Villagers must wait to take advantage of a library and community centre although work on the site is at an end.

Hale Library and Community Centre was supposed to open on the first floor of the site on Ashley Road in spring.

In an update this week Trafford Council, which worked on the library and community centre with Hale Community Trust (HCT) and developer Westfield Ltd, said the delay was due to the need for a building certificate to show work on the site was done in accordance with building regulations.

In the meantime there are alternatives in the form of Altrincham Library, on Pott Street, and Timperley Library, on Stockport Road, as well as a plan for a pop-up library at St Peter's down the road. There are books, audiobooks, magazines and newspapers available online too, the council said.

Catherine Hynes, the deputy leader of Trafford Council and its executive member for leisure, arts, culture and heritage, said: "Libraries are extremely important to local communities and we are delighted to be opening this new facility in Hale.

"We are pleased to have worked closely with the Community Trust to bring forward this fantastic development."
