Partington's Post Office closes today to the disappointment of residents and Trafford Council.

The closure of the Post Office on Hall Lane is as a result of the resignation of the postmaster.

From Wednesday, the alternatives are a branch in Altrincham and a branch in Urmston, both of them around three and a half miles by road from the branch in Partington.

A letter from the Post Office said this is "temporary" but it set no timetable for the return of the service to the town.

The letter, from Dave Hunt, said: "We are writing to inform you, regrettably, following the resignation of the postmaster and the withdrawal of the premises for Post Office use, the branch will close on Wednesday at 12.30pm.

"I would like to assure you we are working hard to keep any period of closure to a minimum and we are currently investigating the options available which will enable us to reinstate a Post Office to the community. In exploring this it is important any service is sustainable for the person operating the service and for the Post Office."

It said: "We apologise for the inconvenience the closure may cause. We hope our customers will continue to use Post Office services and details of alternative Post Office services in the area are shown at the end of this letter.

"The available branch information can be found on our website, www.postoffice.co.uk/branch-finder."

A spokesperson for Trafford Council said: "We are deeply disappointed by the closure of the Post Office.

"It is vital the closure is for as short a period as possible and the community can have this service back."

From Wednesday, the alternatives are a branch in Altrincham, on Seamons Road, and a branch in Urmston, on Ambleside Road. Both of them are around three and a half miles by road from the branch in Partington.
