I CYCLE to work in Flixton most days.

Over the years I have had several near misses and most of these have been with impatient parents on the school run. Last Friday morning I was hit by a car that pulled out of a side street onto Irlam Road. The driver claimed she did not see me although I was wearing a flourescent vest. She had at least three children in her car so I assume she was taking them to school.

I was lucky because I managed to stay upright on my bike and was wearing a helmet. However, had she hit one of the many school children who cycle along that route, they may not have been so fortunate.

It's ironic that some parents don't let their children walk to school because its not safe. Instead they would rather get in their cars, congest the roads around schools and put everybody else's life in danger.

Please have some consideration and walk your children to school so that we have safer roads in our community.
