WITH reference to your article ‘widow wrongly labelled as a council tax cheat’.

I see that I was not alone in receiving a letter from Ian Duncan, Director of Finance, Trafford Council implying that I am dishonestly claiming a 25 per cent discount on my council tax as a sole adult resident at my property.

I was so angered by the tone of the letter and the implication of dishonesty on my part that I immediately tried to contact Mr Duncan to ask for an explanation.

My efforts to contact anyone on the telephone number given on the letter proved useless. No-one would even answer my call, so I wrote a reply the same day as receiving the letter, asking for an explanation of the reasons for my being suspected of dishonesty.

Since then I have not received any reply either by letter or telephone, even to acknowledge receipt of my letter. As we are now into the third week since I first received the letter, I have sent a further letter asking for clarification of the matter.

I would be very interested to know how many other innocent, law abiding people have been caused unnecessary stress by this letter.
