I WOULD like to thank all residents who have helped the campaign to save our local post offices, by signing the petition forms, and attending the special neighbourhood forum at Wellington School in December.

The Post Office consultation team has confirmed, in a letter to Cllr Neil Taylor, that the strength of feeling expressed by local people signing the petition during the consultation period will shape the final decision.

Our local post offices provide a vital service in our community, especially to vulnerable people like the elderly or those with small children, who may not have access to a car.

Local post office services are also well used by younger people as the popularity of buying and selling using online services, such as eBay, increases.

With Cllr Neil Taylor, Timperley ward, the Liberal Democrats will do their very best to keep all the post offices open in Timperley. The Labour government has already closed 4,000 post offices in Britain and under the last Conservative administration 3,500 post offices were closed. You can trust that the Lib Dems will continue to fight for our community to keep this vital resource for everyone.

Nick Clegg's Liberal Democrats have put forward a fully funded plan for an additional £2 billion investment in the Post Office that would create a thriving network. Our high profile campaign helped reprieve the threat to Park Road Post Office and now we are fighting to save another at risk post office on Brook Lane, Timperley. We support all those trying to protect the Dunham Town Post Office too.

Jane Brophy, Meadow Bank, Timperley.
