Nigel Chorlton asks why Sean Anstee has been given a CBE (The Messenger, January 17).
I would totally agree with his question.
Nearly every road in Altrincham, apart from the main road, has potholes and blocked drains.
Every time there is any rain, a small lake appears in Denmark Street, at the car park entrance, due to the drain being blocked by leaves.
No doubt the answer that Amey would produce is to chop down the trees, thereby stopping the blockages!
It appears that CBEs are awarded for time-servers, and not for outstanding contributions to the community — in fact,the reverse.
The whole process seems to be akin to the award of knighthoods to senior civil servants, for just doing the job for which they have already been richly rewarded, and are retiring on a pension that most people could only dream of.
