HOW disappointing! At a time when there is a growing consensus among scientists, politicians and the public about the serious and urgent threat posed by climate change, local Tories show staggering levels of complacency.

The Tory led council in Trafford recently voted against a Lib Dem motion which proposed much needed local action to curb carbon dioxide emissions.

This was closely followed by Altrincham and Sale West Tory MP Graham Brady criticising Lib Dem tax proposals to switch the tax burden by reducing income tax levels (benefiting an average family by up to £1000 per year) while increasing green taxes. Under this policy, the less we pollute, the better for our pockets and the planet.

In contrast, Mr Brady is scornful of green tax measures, ignoring their value in combating climate change. Not that this dinosaur-like' approach should surprise anyone - his disregard for the environment was evident at the last General Election, when his five leaflets and over 2,500 words failed to raise any concern over climate change.

Let's hope he wakes up soon and joins the struggle to save our planet for our children and grandchildren. Are we really paying him £132,000 each year for such woeful complacency?
