ALTRINCHAM Kersal started the new year in fine fashion with a 54-0 victory against St Benedicts in North One West.

A hat-trick of tries from Andrew Frost, a brace apiece for Calum Robinson and Ali Berryman, Jon Bishop, James Coulson and Alex Faupel completing the try fest, each bagging themselves a try, though just two conversions were successful from the boot of Ged Scrace.

The seconds had been hoping to rekindle their winning formula which had waned towards the end of 2017, but they went down 30-21 on home soil to Aldwinians seconds.

Tries from Jack Braithwaite, Jack Snoddy (two) and two penalties from Jack Braithwaite were not enough for Kersal.

The thirds also missed out on a win, losing narrowly 24-17 at Manchester RUFC thirds. 

Sunday's junior action saw the under-17s Colts host Kirkby Lonsdale at Stelfox Avenue, and winning 26-24.

Tries came from George Walker, Tom Gill and Tom Sullivan (two) while Gill kicked two conversions and Max Brooks one.

The u13s lost on the road at Knutsford who edged a close match 35-30. 

There was a boost for the club with youngsters Elliot Gourlay, Ollie Leatherbarrow and Ollie Higson representing Cheshire U16s in a 28-22 victory at Yorkshire.
