Ryan Colclough produced a match-winning performance before a nationwide television audience then revealed how his recent dazzling form has stemmed from Altrincham’s bold decision to go full-time in the summer.

Trailing to an early York City goal, Alty roared back with an Elliot Newby equaliser soon after half time and took the points with a brilliant Colclough finish in a 2-1 home win that was screened live by BT Sport.

The livewire winger has been in the form of his life all season, tormenting defenders and scoring spectacular goals.

And he had no hesitation putting it down to Alty’s newly-acquired professional status.

“When I joined the club, we were part-time, and it took me a while to adapt to that, because I had always been full-time throughout my career,’”he said. “So it’s no surprise to me that I’m playing better this season, now we’ve gone full-time.

“I said to the gaffer at the start of the season that I expected bigger things this year, and it is turning out that way.

“I’m really feeling the benefit of it. I’m feeling better, stronger and quicker, and I think that’s beginning to show in the rest of the lads as well.

“It was evident against York, because, as the second half wore on, there was only going to be one winner.

“I thought we showed great character to come back the way we did and finish 2-1 up. We could easily have had three or four.

“The two new lads, Elliot and Connor Jennings, have been with us for a week now, and you can see new partnerships are being formed. Connor does all the unselfish work that can go unnoticed, but not by us, and it was a flawless pass from Elliot for my goal.

“It was great to see that go in, and being on TV was a bonus, but doing it in front of our fans was even bigger for me, because they turn up every game and get behind us.

“The place was rocking, so I hope we can kick on from this and keep moving forward.”
