Phil Parkinson vowed to stick to his footballing principles after Altrincham had to rely on a stoppage-time equaliser from debutant Egli Kaja to salvage a draw against Yeovil Town at The J.Davidson Stadium on Saturday.

Alty are still winless four games into the new campaign, but it could have been worse for Parkinson’s side after Yeovil went in front for a second time midway through the second half and were only pegged back when substitute Egli made it 2-2 with a late header.

The Alty boss remained defiant, though, ahead of Saturday’s trip to Boreham Wood and Bank Holiday Monday’s 3pm home encounter with Chesterfield, as he said: “I feel we are playing well. I know people will question that, if we are not winning games, but it’s more a case of every mistake we make being punished at the moment.

“It is proving a frustrating start to the season, but I have been here before, and I know we will get it right.

“We’ve got an identity. People want to watch winning football, of course they do, but there is a way to win.

“The way we do it has brought us a lot of praise, and I deeply believe it is the right way to go about it.

‘I certainly won’t change, and I firmly believe we will get our rewards for sticking to our beliefs.

“We need to tidy up the mistakes we are making, but we certainly deserve far more than we’ve got so far, because we’ve been playing good football.”

On former AFC Wimbledon winger Kaja, signed on a short-term deal, Parkinson added: “We’ve got a real gem in Egli. We’ve got to manage his minutes and get him up to speed, but with the quality he’s got, he should be playing in League One or even the Championship.”

Two months after signing him from Connah’s Quay, Alty have finally received FA and National League approval and international clearance for keeper Ollie Byrne, who is now available for selection.
