PHIL Parkinson has bolstered his Altrincham squad with a double transfer breakthrough after snapping up two of the North West’s top young non-league prospects.

Right-back Aidan Roxburgh was first through the door at The J.Davidson Stadium, after agreeing a move from neighbours Trafford, and he was followed on Tuesday night by 21-year-old attacking left-back Liam Brockbank from Lancaster City.

The deals, which are subject to FA and National League approval, underline Alty boss Parkinson’s eagerness to add dynamic, up-and-coming young talent to a new-look squad for the advent of full-time professional football at Moss Lane next season.

“Liam is one of the hottest prospects coming out of the Northern Premier League,” he said.

“He’s developed a big reputation for himself as a goalscoring and creative left-back.

“I first scouted Liam playing in a very good footballing side at Workington and then monitored his progress at Lancaster City, where he picked up the supporters’ player of the season this time around.

“He’s a futsal International, so you should definitely see this in his technical side of the game and tenacity in which he plays.

“And Aidan is a little diamond we’ve discovered through our excellent links with Trafford, through the coaching and mentoring of (manager) Danny Caldecott, who has specialised in finding and developing young talent.

“We’ve monitored his progress this season closely, and we feel, under the new model, he could blossom and take his game to the next level.

“He’s a late developer, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be a big player for us this coming season or even the following one.”

Brockbank is fresh from an outstanding campaign with NPL Premier Division Lancaster, where his attacking prowess actually earned him two player-of-the-year accolades at the recent end-of-season awards ceremony.

Roxburgh, aged 23, who can operate on the left but is predominantly a right-back, has built a similar reputation for powering forward at every opportunity, and the pair’s arrival means Alty now have five new faces for next season, following the recent capture of Ross Barrows, Josh Lundstram and Lewis Baines.
