ALTRINCHAM’S iconic stadium will be awash with nostalgia on Sunday when a host of familiar names from the Robins’ recent past pay tribute to one of the more remarkable careers in the club’s history.

Shaun Densmore arrived at what was then known as Moss Lane in September, 2008 on an initial one-month agreement that was soon extended for the remainder of the season after he made a favourable early impression on manager Graham Heathcote.

Nearly a decade-and-a-half later, he is still going strong at the age of 33, and his astonishing 14 years of unbroken service is being rewarded in fitting style this weekend when Alty’s current team take on a Densmore Xl in a testimonial match for the popular full-back at The J.Davidson Stadium.

Kicking off at 1.30pm, Alty fans can look forward to seeing Heathcote, a celebrated club servant himself after so many years as a player, administrator and manager, back in the dugout, albeit the away one, as he takes charge of the Densmore Xl alongside former Robins skipper Robbie Lawton.

Club record appearance-maker, Stuart Coburn, will be back between the posts, while Scott Leather, Luca Havern and Michael Welch are among the defenders and the midfielders include Greg Wilkinson, scorer of the unforgettable play-off final winner against Guiseley in the last minute of extra-time.

Nicky Clee’s dazzling wing skills will be back on show, as will the finishing prowess of Tom Peers and the prolific Damian Reeves, who scored an incredible 44 league goals in a single season a decade ago.

Densmore, who has made 445 appearances for the club and scored 29 goals, will be given a guard of honour as he steps on to the pitch and will play for the current squad, initially, before switching to the one bearing his name.

After the game, there will be the chance to catch up with all the ex-Robins favourites, who will be staying behind in the Community Sports Hall to toast the long-serving Liverpudlian and chat with fans.

Admission is £10 for adults and £2 juniors, and tickets can be purchased in advance by visiting the club’s website at www.altrinchamfc.com and clicking on the tickets link at the top.

A special souvenir brochure has been produced by the club and will be on sale inside the ground.
