Trafford’s first competitive game since lockdown ended with a comfortable 4-1 victory against Wythenshawe Amateurs in their FA Cup preliminary round tie at Hollyhedge Park.

After a nervy opening Danny Caldecott's men were first to settle and took the lead in the 16th minute, Ollie Ford neatly controlling a long through ball and rounding Ammies keeper Kyle Haslam to slide the ball home.

Max Hazeldine then headed a corner over as the visitors sought a second goal whilst at the other end Connor Payne fired wide.

Trafford skipper Oli Roberts twice went close as his side dominated but in the 38th minute Caldecott’s side were almost punished for a lapse in concentration that saw Ammies striker Ross Aikenhead strike the foot of the post.

On the stroke of half-time, Trafford doubled their lead with a superbly worked goal, Matty Morgan coolly placing the ball into corner after a five-man move.

The visitors were on top in the opening minutes of the second half but they were stunned in the 54th minute when the Ammies struck back in spectacular fashion, Dylan Moloney blasting an unstoppable drive from fully 35 yards past Matty Cooper.

The crowd sensed an upset and Trafford were rattled for a spell but gradually they settled and put the game to bed in the 79th minute when Ford crossed hard and low for Astley Mulholland to side-foot home.

Substitute Michael Elstone then completed the scoring two minutes from time.
