Trafford MV's senior men's XV put up a brave fight against league leaders Widnes on Saturday before losing out 40-15.

With a young side taking the field as part of their rebuilding strategy MV are now looking to regroup and bring younger players through the ranks to replace injured and absent players.

The result leaves MV nine points adrift at the bottom of the ADM Premier Division with attention very much on building for the future.

Elsewhere, the club see their newly-launched women's team take to the field for the first time against an experienced Oldham Women's XV this Saturday, kick-off 12.30pm.

Training numbers have been good and director of women’s rugby Lizzi Cafferky together with captains Beth Land and Madie Woodworth are looking for their first squad to put in a competitive performance on this initial outing.

Players have gelled well off the field and this opening friendly will see how the girls take shape on the field.

To provide a player pathway Trafford MV will also be hosting an open training session between 2-3pm for any girls aged between 12 and 16 years with a view to getting at least one girls team taking the field alongside the women's XV next season.

March 7 will be a showcase day for Trafford MV as the women's game will be followed by the men also taking on Oldham.

It is also a sponsors' day with many of the club's loyal, local business partners attending to enjoy the club's hospitality.

There will also be, weather permitting, a bouncy castle, cake stall and face painting from 12pm until 4pm plus raffles throughout the day.

There will be food available and a lively atmosphere for the England against Wales Six Nations game at 4.45pm.

The club will open from noon for everyone to enjoy the day.
