This week sees an historic event in Trafford MV’s history as women’s rugby comes to town.

After years of producing young talent with no natural progress the club has now taken the huge step of launching a section devoted solely to girls and women wanting to enjoy rugby union.

Across the country girls are wakening to the fact that the oval ball game is there to be enjoyed by all.

Trafford MV have recruited a core squad but are shouting out across the borough for girls aged 16 and above to get involved.

This evening (Thursday) girls and women are invited to come along to an open training session at Trafford MV (M33 6LR) starting at 7pm.

No experience is necessary as the club is hoping to attract all girls with a vision of playing to come and get involved.

The club will be dishing up food and drink for all participating trainers on the night although any women keen on supporting the project are asked to come along.

There is already a first fixture organised for March 7 when they will play Oldham.

Interest will be high in this game and the club are keen to invite local business partners to bring their ideas to the forefront for ongoing sponsorship opportunities for the women’s rugby XV.

Local colleges, universities and senior schools will be MV’s first port of call but in the long term they will be growing age-group teams beneath the senior side so that young players can have aspirations and targets to live up to.

The clubhouse will be open from 6.30pm this evening.

Women’s sport is promoted globally with the ‘’This Girl Can’’ logo and Trafford MV is looking to get behind the scheme and provide opportunities for girls who want to break the mould and achieve new horizons.

On Saturday Trafford MV’s first XV travel to Aldwinians.

Kick off is 2.15pm.
