DESPITE playing against 10 men for the final half hour, Trafford had to settle for a point from a disappointing 0-0 draw at Prescot Cables on Saturday.

The difficult playing surface made controlled possession football virtually impossible and the hosts’ more direct approach saw them create the better chances.

However, neither goalkeeper was called upon to make a save of any note throughout the full 90 minutes although Trafford’s Matty Cooper was the busier of the two.

James Edgar’s angled drive from 18 yards was deflected wide of the Trafford goal in the 12th minute and then Matty Hamilton fired well over from 15 yards.

A brilliant move by Prescot in the 34th minute ended with a Hamilton shot from close range that was deflected behind by Trafford skipper Sam Egerton and a scrappy half ended with Hamilton’s drive from the edge of the area being comfortably saved by Cooper.

Egerton blocked yet another shot by Hamilton on the hour mark and seconds later Prescot midfielder Aaron Turner was shown a second yellow card following a reckless challenge on Joel Amado.

Within seconds, Trafford created their best chance of the game but Lewis Salmon’s back-post header was easily held by Ollie Taylor.

Trafford dominated possession but were too slow and laboured in their build-up and the closest they came to breaking the deadlock were long-range efforts by Oli Roberts and Jordan Johnson before the whistle signalled the end of a tedious encounter and a bore draw that means Trafford are now winless in nine league games.

However, they will be hoping to break that sequence on Saturday when they entertain Colne. Kick off is 3pm.
