ASHTON–on-Mersey Golf Club were hosts for the Mersey Valley Captains' ‘Captain’s Day’ hosted by MV captain Dick Browne – a former captain and president of Sale Golf Club.

There was a good field in excess of 50 players in the action for the individual and team prizes.

Last year’s MV captain, Monty Milner, of Northenden Golf Club, showed his enduring class as he strolled to the top individual spot to take the Captain’s Trophy with a fine haul of 42 points.

It left him clear of Pat Gilsenan (Chorlton) on 39 and Andrew Taylor, the current captain of Northenden, on 38.

The top team was led by Withington captain Steve Emmett, with John Davies (Chorlton) and Roland Willott (Davyhulme Park) helping him post 88 points.

Next in on 87 were Paul Higgins (Withington), Paul Barton (Davyhulme Park) and Dick Browne.

The Mersey Valley Captains' Society goes from strength to strength and is now in its sixth season with more than 100 members.
