Olympic medallist, Daniel Purvis, launched Trafford Leisure’s new Gymnastics and Trampolining Programme at Altrincham Leisure Centre on Saturday.

Daniel is one of Britain’s most successful gymnasts, having won British, Commonwealth, European, World and Olympic medals. Daniel attended the open day and officially launched the new gymnastics programme, even sharing his Bronze Olympic medal with local children and families.

Daniel says: “It’s been a fantastic day. It was great to share my love of this sport with so many young gymnasts. The children are so enthusiastic about gymnastics and I welcome the opportunity to encourage more young people to try it out. Gymnastics and trampolining is a great way to keep active; it’s suitable for all ages and abilities and is lots of fun. The new equipment at Altrincham Leisure Centre is outstanding and the coaches are extremely experienced. There is a lot to be excited about.”

Trafford Leisure has recently invested £30,000 into gymnastics and trampolining, through the purchase of new equipment and the strategic development of its gymnastics and trampolining teaching programme, launching 15 new gymnastics and trampolining classes.

Shane Robinson, the Gymnastics and Trampolining Brand Manager for Trafford Leisure says: “Trafford Gymnastics is one of the largest leisure centre schemes in the UK and it already teaches 1200 children and young adults a week. This September we launched an additional 15 gymnastics and trampolining classes. Visitors to our gymnastics open day not only had the opportunity to meet and get a selfie with their Olympic hero, but were able to watch live sessions and meet our team of coaches and representatives from British Gymnastics to find out more about the sport and book a free trial session.”

Trafford Leisure offers an exciting and structured programme for children, young people and adults of all abilities and levels, with classes starting for children aged from 18 months, as well as boy- and girl-only sessions. Trafford Leisure partners with British Gymnastics, the National Governing Body for the sport, and follows its ‘Jump into Gymnastics’ teaching programme. Children in the Trafford Gymnastics classes will work towards the British Gymnastics Awards and will be continually assessed throughout the classes.

Shane Robinson concludes: “I’m overwhelmed with the response to our open day and the new classes and equipment. Over 250 children came to our special gymnastics event and all left with a smile on their face and a special goodie bag. Spaces are booking up fast, so if you want to try one of our sessions then do get in touch with our team for a chat.”
