TRAFFORD’S preparations for the forthcoming season continued on Tuesday when they fell to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of an impressive Atherton Collieries side at the Home Estates Shawe View Stadium.

Jordan Wynne and Joel Amado went close in a bright start for the hosts and in the 27th minute Sam Egerton saw his goalbound header acrobatically tipped over by Colls keeper Chris Cheetham.

Gradually the visitors began to take control with Gareth Peet and Brad Lynch causing problems down the left and it was Peet who broke the deadlock in the 37th minute when he burst down the flank and flashed a drive into the roof of the net from an acute angle.

Colls continued to dominate for long spells in the second half and Ben Hardcastle doubled their lead in the 61st minute when he rounded off another slick move with a cracking shot past the helpless Matty Cooper.

Trafford battled gamely to the end and in the 83rd minute, substitute Adam Rooney was unfortunate when his volley from 15 yards clipped the bar and flew over.

Tom Baker’s side complete their pre-season programme on Saturday when Scarborough Athletic are the visitors to Shawe View for a game kicking off at 3pm.
