TWO Trafford youngsters celebrated success at the recent Sportshall Athletics UK Finals in Manchester.

Sale Harrier Annabel Ammadin won the under-13 girls' shot put with a magnificent throw of 11.64m, while Halle Ferguson, of Trafford AC, became the u15 girls' All-Rounder champion – a title previously held by Brighton's Amber Anning, who went on to win a silver medal at the European Indoor Championships recently.

The u13 athletes arrived at the Regional Athletics Arena in Manchester from across the UK having qualified as winners of their respective regional finals.

Cheshire (boys) and Leicestershire (girls) also qualified as the closest runners-up.

In the girls' competition, Ammadin used her home advantage to improve the 10.95m throw recorded at the North West Regional events to triumph in the final round ahead of Lucy Oakley, of Norfolk.

In the boys' competition, having equalled the Standing Long Jump UK record in the South East regional event, Dante Clark, of Surrey (Herne Hill), jumped a credible 2.77m to take the UK title as well. His Surrey team-mate, Frank Bostock Westland (Herne Hill), took second place.

After great team efforts and outstanding performances across the day the team winners in the girl’s competition were Norfolk ahead of Berkshire by only seven points.

The girls showed great strength as a team throughout the day by winning no less than five medals in individual events in addition to podium places in almost all the relays.

Having missed out on the title in 2018 by a small margin, Surrey’s boys' team were crowned u13 boys UK champions after collecting six individual medals.

The following day, it was the turn of the u15s and in the girls' competition, Trafford's Ferguson stepped up her game to win the All Rounder title having only finished fifth in the North West Regional finals last month.

She won the standing long jump with a jump of 2.53m in the final round, threw a huge personal best in the shot put to finish eighth with 9.19m in the second round and recorded a time of 20.7secs to take the silver medal in the two-lap race behind Lili Fern, of Devon (City of Plymouth).

Surrey’s u15 girls' team were crowned champions for the 11th time in the 30-year history of the UK Finals ahead of Norfolk in second and the Ulster champions Donegal in third.

In the boys' competition the all-rounder champion in only his first year in the age group was Mason Owusu-Dellimore (Surrey, South London) collecting gold in the four-lap race with 40.1 and silver in the standing long jump with 2,84 – only 2cm behind Trafford AC's Jerel Livingston.

The team title went to Berkshire who only qualified as closest runners-up after being beaten into second place by Surrey at the South East regional finals.
