TRAFFORD MV had the worst possible start to the New Year with a 54-7 home defeat to Heaton Moor in the ADM Premier Division.

Weak defence and a lack of ideas going forward meant MV were up against it from the opening whistle, conceding three tries within the first 15 minutes.

MV battled to get back on terms for the next 20 minutes without success before Moor broke out of their own 22 and, using their pacey wing, were soon crossing under the Trafford posts. This was quickly followed by yet another converted try bringing the half to an end with a 35-0 lead for the visitors.

The second half went much the same way as the first with MV failing to get decent possession and what ball they had was either lost cheaply or kicked away.

Heaton Moor maintained their disciplined, basic style of play, doing nothing elaborate but winning good set-piece ball, putting in hard graft between phases of play and recognising the danger men were out wide and getting the ball quickly into this area to use pace and elusive running to settle the game.

Three more tries were conceded by MV with the Moor kicker converting two of them.

With the gloom drawing in over the pitch MV collected a late consolation try from Paul Davenport, converted by Pat Eccles.

This was a poor showing from MV in front of their home support and players will need to re-focus ahead of Saturday's cup tie against Tyldesley, kick off 2.15pm.

Meanwhile, Trafford MV are looking to welcome new players at all age groups, starting at four years of age through to teenage years in their mini/junior section plus new adult players are welcome in all of the three senior sides.
